Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect in the initial session? Do I need to bring anything?

Once you're ready to book your initial session, The Hong Kong Psychology Practice® (HKPP) will email you intake forms and brief questionnaires. These help us prepare for your appointment and ensure we tailor our approach to your needs. Completing them before your session is encouraged but not required. All information is handled with the utmost confidentiality in line with our [Privacy Policy].

Your initial session will run for 90 minutes, giving us time to explore your concerns, discuss your goals, and determine how best to support you. You don’t need to bring anything—just log in at your scheduled time. Sessions are conducted via our secure, confidential telehealth platform. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with. I work at a pace that suits you, and together, we’ll clarify your goals and outline a treatment plan tailored to your needs. From there, we’ll move forward in a way that feels right for you.

If you have any questions before your first session, feel free to reach out!

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No, you do not need a referral from your General Practitioner (GP) to access psychological services at The Hong Kong Psychology Practice®. Clients are welcome to contact me directly to schedule an appointment. However, it's important to note that some insurance policies may require a GP referral for reimbursement purposes. It is recommended to check with your insurance provider to understand their specific requirements. If a referral is needed, I can assist by coordinating with a GP to obtain one. In Hong Kong's public healthcare system, accessing mental health services typically involves obtaining a referral from a GP or medical practitioner. This process can include consultations and potential waiting periods. By choosing our private practice, you can bypass these steps, allowing for more immediate access to psychological support. I strive to make the process as straightforward and efficient as possible, ensuring you receive the care you need without unnecessary delays. If you have further questions or need assistance with the referral process, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person support?

Telehealth is as effective as in-person therapy for various mental health conditions. Empirical evidence demonstrates that it provides high-quality care, with both patients and professionals viewing it positively. Many governments, including Australia and the UK, expanded subsidies for telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic, not only to address immediate healthcare needs but also in recognition that those in rural and remote communities, who have long faced barriers to in-person care, could greatly benefit from improved access to psychological services.

What are the session fees?

Session fees vary depending on the type and length of service. A sliding scale is available for those experiencing financial hardship. If you have any questions about fees or would like to discuss affordability options, please feel free to reach out.

Do you have appointments available out of normal business hours?

Yes, I offer appointments Tuesday to Friday during business hours, with some evening availability. Saturday afternoon sessions are also available. Please feel free to reach out to discuss a time that works best for you.

How does your practice handle confidential information about me?

Please refer to the HKPP's Privacy Policy for details.

CRISIS & ACUTE CARE SUPPORT

HKPP does not provide a crisis service. If at any stage you are concerned about your safety, please contact your nearest ambulance service or the emergency department of your local hospital. Further, there are a number of emergency services available that provide crisis support, depending on your specific situation. These include:

Respectful Behaviour Policy

At HKPP all communication must remain respectful and considerate. To maintain a safe and professional space, any behavior that is aggressive, abusive, or threatening will not be tolerated. If such behavior occurs, HKPP reserves the right to end the interaction immediately. In cases where ongoing communication remains inappropriate or unsafe, I may discontinue professional engagement with the individual if deemed necessary.
